In recent years I have put up with reading much in the way of Bush-bashing from her. I generally accepted that she was a liberal, politically and chose to keep reading her because I wasn't reading her novels for political enlightenment anyway. So, it seems that with the Bush-era coming to an end, Jeanette has apparently perceived that Gov. Palin now carries the mantel of conservative leadership in the USA and has sought to focus her energies on attacking her.

The focus of her attacks, not surprisingly , is Palin's religious faith. Jeanette's famous first novel, "Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit" was semi-autobiographical and described her own upbringing as an adopted child of a religiously obsessed, Pentecostal mother and passive father. I knew that Jeanette was a moonbat, but I didn't realize how a person who had been so unfairly judged, and treated herself (because of her sexual orientation), could render such quick and harsh judgement on SP based on her own ancient and unfortunate history with a mother who was more psychologically disturbed than religiously inspired. Ms. Winterson may have understood Pentecostalism in a depressed area of England in the 1960's, but that in no way can be compared to mainstream American Evangelicalism in the present day. I really think, having come from this religious background myself, that Sarah Palin should not be categorized as a Pentecostal. I believe, based on my limited understanding of Sarah and her church/religious history, that she is a Conservative Evangelical and attends a non-denominational congregation. In my experience finding a church is hard. When you live in a sparsely populated area, it can be even more difficult to find a church that truly represents your specific beliefs or best expresses a way of worship and quality of teaching that fits your personal style, the needs of your family and other preferences.

I am going to write Jeanette. I am going to defend Sarah against Winterson's new, uninformed, unjust attacks. These attacks are meant to foment and foster fear and hatred. Feel free to pile on, if so inclined. Fortunately since JW is of British citizenry she can't vote in our election. She can have her OBE , a token from a fading Monarch and think herself elite. WE the people can confer on Sarah Palin a more powerful, and meaningful title in November with our votes -- The Vice President of The United States of America! In God I trust.
